Don't Take It Too Serious
It's a long journey from breeding a mare, to seeing that foal hit the ground, to putting a saddle on for the first time, to getting to the show pen. Jack Daniels showed two home-bred horses for the first time in Waco, Texas.
Whyy So Serious is by Spooks Gotta Gun and is the first foal out of Joleene Joleene (Lil Joe Cash x Prettywhizprettydoes). Joleene Joleene was trained and shown by Kaci and Jack, back in 2022. Retired early due to a stifle injury, after only showing three times, Jolene has now begun her career as a broodmare - and the first foal to hit the show pen, just did in big fashion.
"Man, what an easy horse to show," said Jack. "I thought he was even better for me in the pen than he had been at home. He prepared really good all week. My goal was not to push him super hard. I just wanted to see what we had. I wanted to plus half each maneuver and we came very close to doing that."
Joker's 220.5 score earned him $2,361 for owner Caroline Gute. Caroline, who got to see her horse show for the first time in person, has been a big part of Joker's journey through the whole process from training to showing.
"It is incredibly rewarding to see Jack and Kaci's hard work, unwavering dedication, and commitment to this horse come to life in the show pen," said Caroline. "We've been eagerly anticipating Joker's debut, and today we finally had the privilege of watching it all come together. This feels like just the beginning, and I couldn't be more excited to see where this journey takes us."
celebrity in the making
Several hours later, at draw 92, another PH bred horse made his show pen debut. Celebrity Crush and Jack "crushed" their first trip in the show pen marking a 219.5 and putting some big maneuvers on the board.
Jack recalled his run, "I got into some trouble the night before in my preparation, so I didn't know how he would show. I was so happy that he went in the pen and was with me the entire run. I was most impressed with his left turn around. Not many three year olds can turn like that. He also stopped really well in the show pen for me. Any time they can go in there and show up for you is a win."
Celebrity Crush is by PS Mega Shine Chic and out of Starstruck Gunner (Gunners Special Nite x Chic Olena Starbuck). Starstruck Gunner was purchased by Daphne Bowers and PHPH in the spring of 2021 and went on to win nearly $50,000 and make the Level 4 Finals of both the NRHA Futurity and Derby, before being sold to PHPH / Clark Reining Horses Partnership in 2025.
Daphne and her husband Tim retained ownership in Celebrity Crush and have long awaited his first trip to the show pen. "We are thrilled to see this colt show for the first time, sound, quiet, and confident," said Daphne.
"...the 3 year old year can make or break a show horse. We are thankful to Kaci and Jack for making sure that our horse has a positive experience, giving him the foundation he needs for a bright future."
While both horses have just started their careers, there is much more to come. Jack discusses the plan going forward for Whyy So Serious and Celebrity Crush;
"Next for 'Tatum' is getting him ready for The Inviational and then after that I'd like to school him at the Southwest before the NRHA Futurity. With 'Joker' I plan on giving him a little break and get him ready for the Congress. I'm really excited to continue both of their show careers, especially coming from two mares that Kaci and I rode together makes it that much more special."
